This new type of shear is more like scissors and is largely self sharpening. We have now discovered a variation on that theme makes the Arsenis shears even better! The Arsenis shears offer the same benefits as the previous product but also feature a tension screw. Because camelid owners are shearing a wide variety of fleece types a feature that allows you to vary the tension is very helpful. These shears feature a lightweight composite handle they are easy to use, and stay sharp for a long time. Easy to care for after use, wipe with a dry cloth(not wet), lubricate with a lightweight oil store, wrap in a cloth and store in a dry place.

The Long Catch Rope/ Halter Training Rope can be used alone in a variety of ways (see the Camelid Companion book), but when used with a Catching Wand, the results are dramatic. Using a long wand and a long catch rope allows you to desensitize an animal to your approach. It will help you teach your animal to override his flight response and remain standing while you approach. Taking the time to teach your animals to have confidence pays off every time you work with them, whether in the show ring or while trimming toenails.

Two of the most popular techniques Marty has invented are the Midline Catch and the Bracelet. The Handler Helper tool maximizes the usefulness of these techniques.
Once the animal is in a confined space, the handler approaches the animal from behind the eye while still offering an escape route. The Handler Helper allows you to back away, allowing the animal to move without having to completely let go. In this way, you can keep the animal in your proximity and avert escape and evasion behaviours such as rearing, spinning, and kushing. The Handler Helper can also be used for transporting animals in place of a halter, offering a quick way to get your hands on an animal in an emergency.

If you have ever struggled with getting animals from a large area to a smaller one and wished you could quickly build a fence the Herding Tape is the answer to your wish. The herding tape is 40 feet long with a quick attachment system so that you can attach one end to a gate, tree or fence post and construct a quick lane way. A word of caution this is not a tool for trapping animals in a corner! The herding tape is designed to create a lane way to an area that is large enough to be comfortable (20x 20 or larger) from there you can use herding wands to ease animals into a smaller area like a catch pen.

Once you begin using wands to herd and sort animals, you will not believe you could have done it without them. Wands not only extend your reach but also don’t frighten the animals. In a very short time, the animals understand that the way you use the wands is, in fact, a language. They begin to understand where you want them to go, and they go! Using wands when you sort animals means that the animals respond to the signals you give with the wands and aren’t simply jumping away from your outstretched arms.
Using the wands for herding and sorting sets the stage for using them as leading signals. You can teach your animals not to run past you and help them learn where you want them to stand. Leading with wands is an excellent way to teach your animal the skills he or she needs for the show ring. Try a wand you won’t ever want to be without! The alligator clips with nylon strapping are great, but they always end up in your pocket and can’t be found when you need them. This was Marty’s answer to the problem of a latch that would hold two panels together but wouldn’t walk off. Use the smaller black side (8″ long) to anchor the Hold Everything to the panel rail, and the larger coloured end (13″) to hold the panels together. You can use these handy holders for attaching any two things together; the sky’s the limit. Dogs not included : )

New and Improved Neck Wrap! This new neck wrap is made of lightweight stretchy neoprene.
This tool was inspired by Marty’s work with Linda Tellington-Jones. Linda has pioneered wraps and their use with animals. Linda Tellington-Jones™s work led to the creation of the Thundershirt used for dogs frightened of thunderstorms and other loud noises. A neck wrap serves a similar function with camelids. Marty recommends neck wraps for animals that react violently when injected or when having toenails trimmed. The neck wrap can also very effective in working with animals that are difficult to halter or that startle easily when led. The neck wrap is a more recent innovation taking the place of the body wrap (discontinued) in many situations. If you have read about the body wrap simply substitute the use of the neck wrap. You will accomplish the same effect and the neck wrap is easier to put on and take off. Keep the neck wrap on while you work with the animal and remove it before you let the animal go back with the herd.
I recommend using the bracelet technique to balance the animal as you put on the neck wrap. Roll the ends of the neck wrap towards the middle. The wrap should be snug but not tight. (see photos)
