Marty McGee Bennett in A Fiber Life Podcast (2023)

Podcast hosts Greg and Lisa discuss the steep learning curve of handling guanacos—some of the most intense and powerful forces of nature on a fiber farm.

By shifting their perspective to look at the world through their guanacos’ eyes, they highlight how moving away from traditional force-based management completely transforms the human-animal bond. They speak with Marty about Camelidynamics and how reducing handler-induced stress and prioritizing clear, honest communication is the only true way to eliminate resistance.

Camelid Wellness (2015)

In this peer-reviewed paper, Marty McGee Bennett and Dr Nancy Richards examine the relationship between camelid health, welfare and handling. The article highlights the importance of understanding behavior and reducing stress during routine husbandry and veterinary procedures.

Published in Veterinary Clinics of North America: Exotic Animal Practice, this paper remains a valuable resource for veterinarians, camelid owners and anyone interested in evidence-based approaches to camelid welfare.

Camelid Management, Handling Techniques and Facilities, and Herd Management (2014)

In this book chapter published in Llama and Alpaca Care: Medicine, Surgery, Reproduction, Nutrition, and Herd Health, Marty McGee Bennett explores practical approaches to camelid handling, herd management and facility design. The chapter examines the benefits of low-stress handling, the distinction between containment and restraint, and methods for making routine husbandry procedures safer and less stressful for both animals and handlers.

This publication helped bring many of the principles that underpin CAMELIDynamics into the veterinary and camelid literature.
