I highly recommend that you begin your online course education with the course “Introduction to the Science of Behavior and Basic Camelidynamics.” This course explains the “why” of the techniques and will help you to problem solve for yourself when confronted with new situations.
In the video above you can view the haltering process from beginning to end. As you progress through this course we will take the process apart so that you can learn all the details. This course is about learning to catch your camelid in a way that does not rely on trapping the animal in a corner. This method builds on the escape route work that you learned in Course #1. I offer a review as we begin this course. If you have already taken the first course you can either retake the module as review or skip it and proceed.
You will learn how to use a wand and rope along with the skilled use of balance to desensitize a llama or alpaca to your approach.
You will learn to halter without force and without fear. You will learn how to do the TTouch to both desensitize and provide reinforcement when the animal accepts your proximity.
You will learn about the very important process of fitting a halter and why this is so crucial to your success with leading and working with camelidsYou will learn how to take a halter off so that the animal cannot explode or back out of the halter and in a way that you can easily keep the animal in balance.You will learn how to use your hands to create balance and help the animal keep his balance.
