I brought home two crias about 6 weeks ago that came from a rescue situation. Their herd was sold at auction to the kill buyer and a neighbor bought the little ones. Her vet (large animal vet, not a camelid specialist) guessed their ages at 5 and 7 months at the time. Most recommendations regarding breeding agree that females shouldn't be bred before 12-24 months but I'm wondering at what age a female can become pregnant. I don't know what the circumstances of the herd sale were, but it's possible that studs and females were kept together either at the breeder's or at the sale barn. I'm really hoping that pregnancy would be unlikely or impossible.
