Help! 2 yr old male llama had weakness in hindquarters and was losing weight. Vet diagnosed meningial worm. Treated with safeguard and meloxicam. Low grade fever (102-103) continued for 1 week then started trending up (103-104). Vet started antiobiotic (nuflor). 1 week later fever still trending up, especially at night (103.4-104 with 105.0 last night) despite continued meloxicam and antibiotic. Starting banamine today. Vet thinks maybe viral pneumonia? Certainly seems to be viral something. (no wheezing and he is eating well.) Temps in Texas have been 95 but 100+ today and forecast. He was sheared fully in spring. I hose his chest, tummy and legs several times a day. With high fever, i pour alcohol down his back (learned from vet). Could heat cause fever like this? Any other ideas for cause and suggestions to break fever for good? Any weird viruses vet might not think of?
