The Problem with Weight is not Losing It!

When it comes to llamas and alpacas Marty McGee Bennett has been an industry touchstone for over 20 years. NOW she can help you learn how to attain and maintain your ideal weight. Whether you have camelids, horses, dogs or cats, animals can help you see your struggle with weight in a totally new light.

Using principles of balance instead of force that have helped thousands of camelid owners live harmoniously with their animals, Marty will show you how to use these same ideas to live in balance with your own body in her latest book "The Problem with Weight is NOT Losing it!" More...
Why I wrote this Book

If you have gotten this far then I am assuming that you worry a bit about your weight or would like to lose some. I have struggled with my weight since I was a teenager, I have lost hundreds of pounds and unfortunately found them over and over. . I have never been obese but I have sure been called a BIG girl bumping 200 pounds at one stage. I am 5’10” and my weight has fluctuated between 30 and 50 pounds my whole life. I have always either been on a diet or unhappy with my weight. I have never weighed the same for more than a few weeks at a time. I was a “manic-depressive dieter”. I was either manically dieting or depressed that I was overweight.
On December 28, 2007, quite by accident I made a discovery about weight maintenance that would change my life forever.
The secret isn’t about what to eat or what not to eat, it doesn’t involve special meal plans or pills. Losing weight is calories in and energy expended- we all know how to lose weight. It is keeping it off that is the big deal the grand prize, the big deal, the brass ring. Learning to maintain your weight is more mental than anything else. What I figured out will help you win the mental game of weight control. Really! I know that repeated failure has made many of you very leery of trying to lose weight again. It is too hard. Let me and animals show you a different approach to getting yourself into balance and staying there. This book about animals and how working with and understanding animals can help you understand your own personal animal... your own body. Let your dog or your horse your llama or alpaca teach you how balance really works and then apply those lessons to your life.
The new mantra is diets don't work and that is surely true- learning to eat in balance is a skill and getting good at takes practice and intention. My book will help you learn the skill of weight maintenance.

Don't Take My Word for it!

What people are saying....

I really like your approach. It's a real paradigm shift for me!
I did the balance differential math and was amazed how small a number it was. It's good to know the power of SMALL changes if they are consistent. I've always said you can have a great diet plan, be organized, etc. but what you really need is help "in the moment of temptation". I seem to have it now. I think "remember it doesn't take many calories/exercise to make a difference" and I choose something that is better for me. I also am doing more little bouts of exercise, like standing instead of sitting.

My book arrived yesterday and I can't put it down!! You are a genius alpacas really are a metaphor for life... and balance AND weight!
... Julie

I so enjoyed meeting you at West Ranch's workshop! Thank you for all the wonderful information. AND I read your new book non-stop for 2 days - wonderful wonderful. I've been trying to drop pounds for a few years and your approach makes so much sense. It is so doable!
...Deborah

It reads like a combination memoir/how-to/blog. This style makes it easy to relate to Marty's self-help tips, mostly because she's battled weight fluxes over the years just like me -- and so many others, too. The Balance Differential calculation really drives home the fact that small changes over time yield big, lasting results.
It's especially helpful that her book advocates moderate exercise, too.
No radical diets, no killer workouts. Just a lesson on gentle balancing with slow and steady progress toward a healthier, happier self!
...Cathryn

I have used and taught Camelidynamics for years, and have seen amazing changes in animal behavior as a result. One remarkable aspect of keeping an animal in balance is that it requires small, subtle signals, given consistently. When Marty explained her theory that the same approach can be used to bring our own bodies into balance and keep them there, it made beautiful sense! I had waged war with my weight for years, dieting to super-slim and relapsing to chubby; at the time I joined the "Balance Bunch" my weight was at an all-time high. It took nine months to reach my goal weight (a loss of 34 pounds, a lot on a five-foot frame,) and I have been there for two happy years.

The fact that Marty McGee Bennett enlisted animals (and working with them) as her primary metaphor for human health is precisely what attracted me to the book. As a human who has always struggled with weight, I appreciated her non-judgmental, earthy approach that simply asks me to make small, manageable changes in my daily life rather than demanding the kind of large, heady, and ultimately unsustainable leaps suggested in so many diet and nutrition books. I recommend this book as a compassionate and sane approach to health.

Reading this book made me realize that most of the traditional diets give you no choices...it's "do it exactly this way or you won't succeed." When on a traditional diet, I would wake up in the morning and feel trapped as I knew exactly the plan that I had to follow...and I wouldn't follow it for very long...it would be so discouraging.
Using this book, I mentally think about my "options" rather than about the food itself or being denied certain things as I can decide the options.
...Ginny

The Balance Bunch

Where did The Balance Bunch come from?
When I lost weight and my animal handling students noticed and asked me how I did it… sharing my story and what I learned about balancing my weight gave me the idea for a book. Once I began seriously pursuing the idea for a book I realized that it would be important to add the experiences of others. Not only would this validate the approach but would make it more interesting for the reader. I turned to my advanced students and invited any one in the Camelidynamics Handling program to also join the group I call the “Balance Bunch.” The support and wisdom of this group made my writing as well as weight-balancing journey more interesting and more successful. I now invite you to be a part of “The Bunch.” By joining you can both read and participate in our on-line dialogue. Ask questions, post revelations, recipes and read all about how to lose and then MOST importantly maintain the weight you lose. Grab the brass ring of weight loss and hold on to it forever! The Bunch will help you to see the connections between how you make it possible for the animals in your life find balance and how you can give your own body the same gift.
