Practitioner: Linda Buttolph

A Practitioner pursues an evaluated course of continuing education and is (or has been)
involved in the daily care or management of camelids. After successfully completing their
apprenticeship, the individual is evaluated and certified as a Camelidynamics
Practitioner. The individual continues to pursue an approved course of continuing
education to refresh, refine and maintain their certification. Practitioners are certified to
teach private, semi-private and group lessons* for up to 6-8 people. Lessons are focused
on specific Camelidynamics skills and methods with a significant hands-on component
and differ from workshops and clinics in both scope and organization. (To more fully
understand the definition of Lesson vs. Clinic/Workshop – See Definitions in the Guild Guidelines -
Appendix.)

I came to the Camelidynamics program with a lifetime of horse handling experience and a familiarity with the amazing work of Linda Tellington Jones. A brief introduction to alpacas in 2000 set the stage for a personal business focusing on animal husbandry, country living, and employing my experience in advertising, sales, printing, and animal handling. Looking for a change from my corporate advertising job, in 2002 I transitioned into the world of alpaca breeder & Stonyridge Alpacas was born.

Marty McGee’s Camelidynamics work based on TTeam training seemed a natural fit. That first clinic set the groundwork for the training and handling methods at Stonyridge, and the positive interaction shows in daily routines, animal handling, & show ring successes. Many Advanced Training clinics later, I find that this work is constantly evolving and the animals continually are teaching us. For those interested in showing their alpacas this work is invaluable. In this time of consistently improving alpacas in the show ring, the pleasure of handling a confident, quiet, well behaved animal and the advantage in getting the judge’s full attention on your animal cannot be under estimated. Camelidynamic handlers have that edge and it shows.

My husband, Wayne, and I manage Stonyridge Alpacas in Oregon City, Oregon. The small herd consists of approximately twenty animals. The concepts are followed from the time that new cria join the herd routines. Observing the difference that this training can make between animals and handlers is amazing, and it is exciting to share the methods with others. I really enjoy seeing the successes of handlers as they relax, maintain light contact, and provide a confidence to their animal that is returned in happy, quiet, animals in the show ring.
